A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket. Dr. Gould will explore every option possible before recommending extraction. When a tooth is severely damaged beyond repair it is necessary to remove the tooth. We will work to create a long term solution by replacing the tooth.
Simple Extractions and Surgical Extractions. Simple extractions are the removal of a tooth that is visible in the oral cavity. This usually only requires local anesthetic. We will perform simple extractions when there are no foreseeable complications. Your dental team will evaluate each patient and each tooth on an individual basis. Surgical extractions are not performed in the office. We will work to provide you with a surgical referral.
When a tooth is extracted, the patient has options to fill the void. The patient may choose to have a bridge, a partial or full dentures, or a dental implant. The patient may also choose to do nothing. However, doing nothing often leads to other issues. When a void is left from a tooth, the surrounding teeth begin to shift to fill the space. This shifting can lead to cavities, loose teeth and increases the risk of periodontal disease. Please discuss your concerns with our dental team so that we can address your concerns.
