Bonding is one of the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dental procedures to help repair cosmetic defects to otherwise healthy teeth. Dental bonding is a simple, safe outpatient procedure with no adverse risks. Another benefit of bonding is that it rarely requires anesthesia unless you also need a filling or have a chip near an exposed nerve.
Bonding is the process of applying a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to the tooth in order to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored tooth. It allows us to close spaces between teeth and to make teeth appear longer and can even change the shape or color of teeth!
The process is simple, first, the tooth is prepared by creating a rough surface allowing the composite material to securely adhere to the tooth. Next the composite material is applied. The composite used is carefully chosen to correctly match the shade of the existing and surrounding teeth. A special UV light is then used to cure the composite material and finalize the process of adhering it to the tooth. A tooth that is bonded can still be shaped even after the resin is dry.
