Bonding is the process of applying a tooth-colored composite resin (plastic) to the tooth in order to repair a decayed, chipped, fractured or discolored tooth. It allows us to close spaces between teeth and to make teeth appear longer and can even change the shape or color of teeth!
The process is simple, first, the tooth is prepared by creating a rough surface allowing the composite material to securely adhere to the tooth. Next the composite material is applied. The composite used is carefully chosen to correctly match the shade of the existing and surrounding teeth. A special UV light is then used to cure the composite material and finalize the process of adhering it to the tooth. A tooth that is bonded can still be shaped even after the resin is dry.
